And they solved my biggest bitch, namely that they now generate a full-size preview for Adobe DNG files. Why do I care? Well, DNG is designed to cary metadata in it…meaning that I can convert my RAW files on import (imbedding the original RAW, of course) and then have the metadata follow the image through post processing while still getting a usable preview in Portfolio. Yea! I can’t imagine what Christmas can do to measure up to this week’s technical wonderfulness.

[Update:]Crap! DNG files are opened with Adobe Camera Raw and, not surprisingly, they have the same problem as NEF files opened in Adobe Camera Raw, namely that the colors are lacking. So, it looks like I’m back to square one with no way of maintaining both color fidelity and metadata. Grrrr.
