The Show

So for the first time in my photographic career I’m in a show. Amazing. The big one in the center is mine as well as two of the other images. I can’t wait to see if they sell.

The Gig

So, almost ten months after my first attempt, I’m going to shoot The Hold Steady again. They’re playing Ybor City tomorrow night and I’m beside myself with anticipation. Mostly because I know the show’s going to be good; the new album is great. Anyway…watch this space for the results

When artists argue

The following is a snippet from a conversation as I remember it:

artist: you don’t like the border?

me: no. actually i hate it.

artist: that’s unfortunate. clearly you don’t know s#!* about design

Last night Sputneck and I met up after work for a drink and dinner. Being men of simple minds, we went for what we know: The Rockford in downtown Raleigh. As we were chatting at the bar one of the employees asked if I was a photographer. A bit surprised I said yes and asked [...]

I was reading our independent weekly–cleverly called The Independent–this Saturday when I saw a picture that looked rather familiar. It took me a second, but I finally realized it was a shot I took in October of Nathan Asher & The Infantry. I was so tickled that I had to tell my waitress, “Hey, I [...]

Go here:

Why I shoot

I noticed that I had a comment on one of my Hold Steady pics on Flickr the other day. Since they’d been up for nearly a month I was a bit surprised. I checked it out and, well, here it is:
I look at many Hold Steady photos. This one is my very favorite. Galen’s Mom

A tip for RAW shooters

Up until this weekend I had been using Adobe’s Camera Raw conversion to take my Nikon NEF files and bring them into Photoshop CS2. No more! After doing some experimenting I discovered that the Nikon Raw plugin for Photoshop does a much better job of getting the colors right. It takes a bit longer but [...]

Slightly edited IM conversation:
Sean: that’s a fantastic picture!
bill: of the leaves?
Sean: yeah, you [expletive deleted]
Sean: that’s the shot I’ve been wanting to take for a week!
Sean: a really good fall shot
Sean: god, i hate knowing you
Sorry, it’s a private gallery, so I can’t show it to you. No, really. It is. This is why [...]

New tag line?

I’ve decided that “Because the image matters” is just a wee bit too pretentious. Got an idea? Leave a comment or e-mail me.
